The AEGIS Centre is an institutional destination of choice for masters, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers on interdisciplinary and intersectional gender and equality studies.

 

We nurture early career researchers and mid-career professionals. We place a strong emphasis on equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Risk Assessment Course

Approaches to Risk Assessment for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Other Harmful Cultural Practices (1 day online)

This course is designed to introduce stakeholders to a range of models and tools for assessing the risk of different harmful practices including FGM, Forced Marriage and Breast Ironing. Clear guidance will be given on how the tools should be used. The course is aimed at stakeholders whose role requires them to assess vulnerability risks in relation to the safeguarding of girls and women. For example, social work professionals, the police, medical providers and teachers.

Training Information

FGM awareness training for families, girls at risk and stakeholders. (1.5 days in person or online)

This training is geared towards supporting vulnerable girls and their families in understanding the risks associated with FGM, the legislation criminalising the practice and the consequences of observing it. Wider relevant political and contextual information will be given determined by family history. The training is tailored to the specific need, background and ages of participants. Specific training for children is offered within safe school spaces. Safeguarding mechanisms including for personal safety will be included in the training.

Approaches to Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning in International Development (3 days online)

This course is designed to support early and mid-career professionals working in the International Development Sector. The course will cover a range of evaluation methodologies and data collection tools.

  • In Depth look at MEL methodologies including the realist approach and context, mechanism, outcome frameworks.
  • Approaches to adaptive management and methods for capturing successful adaptions in real time.
  • Data collection methods and tool design including baseline methodologies, mixed method approaches, longitudinal panel tools.
  • Data Analysis and the identification of key findings.
  • How to build and workable log-frame and how to use it in practice.
  • Theories of Change.
  • Learning methodologies and research uptake methods. Impacting learning beyond the programme team.
  • Approaches to evidence into practice.
